Valencia is currently the Pediatric Genetic Eye Disease Fellow

Valencia currently serves as the pediatric ophthalmic genetics fellow. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology at Xavier University of Louisiana. She then moved to Houston to complete a combined M.D./Ph.D. at Baylor College of Medicine. Her thesis work focused on the structural integrity of the connecting cilium in Cep290 disease related murine models. Valencia completed a residency in Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University/ University Hospital before moving to Iowa City for fellowship training. In the Drack research laboratory, Valencia works to identify novel less-invasive therapies for X-linked retinoschisis
